We have educational meetings that are held at the Sacramento County Cooperative building (not our clubhouse/workshop) on the FIRST Thursday of every month at 7pm.
Note: In 2024, the SMS Educational Meetings will move from being held on the
second Thursdays of each month to the FIRST Thursdays of the month.
The meetings are open to the general public and members alike, if you are in the area, please feel free to stop by and see what a meeting is like.
The address for the Sacramento County Cooperative Building is:

Kids Meetings
Our Junior Rockhound/Pebble pup Meetings are on the same evening, and they start at 6pm!
We hope to get more children involved in the earth sciences and rockhounding and as of June 2018, we also have a fun badge program to help engage children in this wonderful hobby!
Monthly Educational Meetings
What goes on at our educational meetings?
Well, we start off with a presentation that runs anywhere from a half hour to an hour.
After the presentation we have a potluck – where our members bring something nice to eat!
While we socialize and enjoy the goodies everyone has brought, members also buy prize drawing tickets and check out what’s up on the auction table and pick up a bidding paddle from the auctioneer table.
We also have a Monthly Challenge every month, where members bring in their entries and every person that has an entry is placed into a drawing to win 3 free shop hours! It’s quite fun to see what the members come up with and it changes every month! 🙂
The prize drawing is simple, you purchase tickets ($2 for 5 tickets) and then put your tickets into the container that has the number matching the item that you’d wish to win. If your number is called, then you win that item. 12 items are set out every meeting. All non-winning tickets for each of the 12 items are placed into a drawing for 2 additional consolation prizes at the end of the raffle. All proceeds go towards the club to help with our monthly overhead costs.
The auction is a live auction (as opposed to a silent auction) and members often donate or sell items to be auctioned off as a monthly fundraiser for the club.
For the live auction, all proceeds for donated items and a small part of the proceeds for selling items goes as a donation towards the club to help with our monthly overhead costs.
At the very end, we have a Participation Drawing – in which whoever is still present has their names put into a drawing to win a prize. 🙂
